Electrospinning has emerged as a leading technique for generating biocompatible nanofibrous scaffolds made of synthetic and natural polymers for tissue engineering applications. In this study, we fabricated hybrid nanofibrous scaffolds composed of polycaprolactone (PCL) and gelatin, and genipin was used as a crosslinking agent in order to avoid rapid dissolution of gelatin in the nanofibers. After the crosslinking process of hybrid nanofibers, we measured diameters of nanofibers by SEM and quantitatively analyzed the degree of crosslinked gelatin by ATR-FTIR and TNBS assay. A contact angle test demonstrated that crosslinked PCL/gelatin nanofibers became more hydrophilic as the gelatin content increased in the hybrid nanofibers. Cell culture studies confirmed that the genipin crosslinked PCL/gelatin nanofibrous scaffolds supported attachment, proliferation and differentiation of mouse myoblasts. |
