Water-borne polyurethane(PU) is replacing polyurethane dissolved in organic solvents due to regulations on volatile organic compounds. However, films of PU obtained after drying of waterborne PU have disadvantage of weak moisture resistance and mechanical properties. In order to overcome such disadvantage of waterborne PU system, an amino silane compound, N-ethylamino isobutyl trimethoxy silane(EITS) was introduced partially as a chain extender of PU prepolymer based on poly(tetramethylene ether glycol) and isophorone diisocyanate. Modification of the waterborne PU with EITS resulted in the increase of film hardness due to sol-gel reaction of the silane compound. It was found that Youngs modules of the PU film showed maximum with increasing content of the amino silane compound, due to efficient microphase separation of soft segment and hard segment of PU system. |
