Hydroxyapatite(HAp) and β-tricalcium phosphate(β-TCP) have been used as implant materials and replaced for hard tissue because of their good biocompatiblity and similarity of chemical composition to the nature bone. There were two types synthesis method. One was a solid state reaction, which has been performed under dry condition at high temperature. The other was wet reaction that performed through liquid reaction at room temperature. However, these process were generally taken long time and also contamination occured through second phase such as CaO. Thus, a new synthesis process has been developed to reduce reaction time and contamination. The microwave-assisted synthesis process is very useful to get a high yield due to the high kinetic energy with impact of each molecule, revolution of molecules and friction between them. In this study, the microwave-assisted synthesis process was used to make HAp and β-TCP nano powders (~100nm) depending on Ca/P ratio, pH and microwave irradiation time. In particular, the microstructures and phase transformation of HAp and β-TCP were investigated using SEM, TEM, FT-IR, XRD and SBF techniques. |
