Effect of Sm3+dopant on laser induced crystallization of Li2O/Al2O3/SiO2 glass system |

RE (Rare-earth) ions including Sm3+ were usually used as a dopant inducing heat-process in the glass by laser irradiation. In this work, Li2O–Al2O3–SiO2 (LAS) glass doped Sm3+ (0~10mol %) was irradiated by Nd:YAG laser with 1064nm wave length. The crystalline phases induced by laser irradiation were confirmed as β-eucryptite(Li2O-Al2O3-2SiO2) and β-spodumene (Li2O-Al2O3-4SiO2). Each degree of crystallinity was compared, increasing the proportion of Sm3+ ion up to 10 mol %. The size of crystal induced by laser irradiation was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Glass stability (ΔT=Tg-Tx) which is main factor in crystallization of glass was calculated by using Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) by increasing the proportion of Sm3+. The decrease of glass transmittance by crystallization was measured by Uv-Vis spectrometer. |
