Lignin is a natural polymer that is the major component of wood and one of the most abundant organic polymers on earth. Natural lignin is composed of methoxylated derivatives of benzene and is known as a complicated structure by the interconnection of lignin derivatives. The lignin compound was known for suitable for biofuel and it has been receiving great interest as the source of biofuel generation. Also, it is highly utilized as a source of aromatic polymer that has been applicable to fine chemicals, biofuels, polymer industries, and pharmaceuticals. In this study, we aimed to photolyze lignin compounds by the plasmon-aided photocatalytic reaction. We performed the degradation of lignin using Au nanoparticles and investigate mechanisms about the photolytic reaction. We characterized the resultants using optical spectroscopy, chromatography, and TEM. As a result, we found that new organic materials, which derived from photolyzed reaction, were produced. |
