제목 | Influence of Pore Structure and Surface Chemistry on Electric Double Layer Capacitance in Non-aqueous Electrolytes |
초록 | Electrical energy storage systems can be classified, in a very general way, according to their energy density (energy stored per volume unit or weight unit) and according to their power (speed of access to the energy stored). And for applications demanding energy for about 1 s, the devices used are large and expensive. Thus, a new generation of electrochemical components for energy storage known as supercapacitors or electric double layer capacitors (EDLCs) are being investigated and commercialized by some research groups and companies. These EDLCs bridge the gap between conventional electrolytic capacitors and batteries because they present a unique combination of high energy density and high power density. The first objective of the present work is to extend the study of EDLCs to alkaline agent-activated carbons with high surface area, especially in non-aqueous electrolyte. The second objective is to try and understand the relationship between carbon properties and capacitance. The results obtained show that, in general, capacitance increases with surface area. However, the results obtained in this study confirm that capacitance not only depends on surface area, but also on two other parameters: pore size distribution and surface chemistry. It has been shown that capacitance is higher for a sample with wider micropore size distribution than for a sample with higher surface area but too narrow micropore size distribution.
