Effect of a TiCl4 Post-Treatment on Nanocrystalline TiO2 Films in Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells |

The influences of TiCl4 post-treatment on the performance of dye-sensitized solar sell (DSSC) have been investigated. The conversion efficiency of TiCl4 post-treated DSSC was significantly enhanced compare with un-treated one, which is mainly due to the short-circuit current (Jsc) increase after TiCl4 post-treatment. We suggest two main factors are related with the enhancement. One is the increase of dye adsorption due to the additional increase of TiO2 surface area during the thermal annealing of treated TiCl4. The other is improved light-scattering properties of the TiCl4 post-treated film that is associated with the growth of large TiO2 particles over the pre-coated TiO2 layer after TiCl4 post-treatment and annealing. We examined photo current-voltage, impedance, dye adsorption and transient photo current characteristics of the several different types of TiCl4 post-treated DSSC to address the influence of those factors. |
