Block copolymers can self-assemble into micelles in selective solvents. Theoretical description for the micelle structure regards the balance between core block stretching and the core block-solvent interaction. One of the main issues is that the core block is highly stretched. Previous study of PS-PEP micelles in selective solvent, however, demonstrated that the core block conformation is nearly fully relaxed. In this study, we extended to investigate the structure of PS-PEP micelles in various selective solvents (CnH2n+2, n= 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 30) to reduce the unfavorable core block-solvent interaction systematically. Critical Micelle Temperature (CMT), measured by Dynamic Light Scattering, decreases as solvent size becomes small. Detailed micelles structure containing core radius, solvent fraction in the core area, and micelle-micelle distance was analyzed using Small-Angle X-ray Scattering. Interestingly the core radius becomes large at far below CMT, as solvent size is smaller. |
