제목 Effect of Homopolymer Molecular Weight on Order-Order Transition Temperature in Homogeneous Mixtures of Block Copolymer and Homopolymer
초록 The order-order transition temperature(TOOT) in mixtures of triblock copolymer (PS-PI-PS, Vector 4111) and various homopolymer was investigated by using synchrotron small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) techniques. Vector 4111 undergoes an OOT from hexagonally-packed cylindrical microdomains of PS to spherical microdomains packed in a cubic lattice. Since the homopolymer was added within the solubility limit, it was found that V4111/homopolymer mixtures did not show any macrophase separation.
The variation of TOOT of block copolymer induced by the addition of homopolymer can be studied by the change of the fraction of block copolymer(f) and the average degree of polymerization(N). When polyisoprene was added to Vector 4111, TOOTof block copolymer decreased because it has more asymmetric composition. On the other hand, TOOT of block copolymer increased when polystyrene was added to block copolymer because it has more symmetric composition.
We found that TOOT is changed as the molecular weight of homopolymer. When the low molecular weight homopolymer added to block copolymer, it tends to reduce the mean molecular weight of block copolymer. Thus, the OOT of the mixtures having low molecular weight homopolymer occurs at a lower temperature. Also, the variation of TOOT was compared qualitatively with the phase diagram given by Matsen et al.
