Cell Cytotoxicity Evaluation and Cytokine modulation of Herbal Extracts Mixtures |

Houttuynia cordata (HC) and Curcuma aromatica (CA) have been used as traditional medicines in Korea and are known to have antioxidant, anti-cancer and anti-allergic activities. In this study, to estimate the cell cytotoxicity effect of the HC and CA on human mast cells(HMC-1), the HC and CA were extracted with distilled water, and then the HC and CA extracts mixtures (HCEM) was freeze-dried and sterilized using γ-rays irradiation. The cytotoxicity was evaluated by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay and the effects of HCEM on TNF-α, IL-6, IL-8 allergic response in HMC-1 were investigated. These results demonstrated that the HCEM did not significantly affect the cell viability and had no toxicity and reduced TNF-α, IL-6, IL-8 response on HMC-1 cells. |
