In this work, the electrolytic plating of a metallic nickel on PAN-based carbon fiber surfaces was carried out to improve electric conductivity of the carbon fibers/epoxy matrix composites which were unidirectionally fabricated by a prepregging method. As experimental results, the mechanical properties of the composites, had been improved after electrolyric Ni-plated due to the increase of surface free energy of carbon fibers. Also, it observed that the electric conductivity was predominantly increased in the presence of metallic nickel particles in the carbon fibers/epoxy matrix composites. |
