2D Transition Metal Carbides (MXene) and their Polymer Composites for Electromagnetic Interference Shielding |

Herein, we present the potential of several kind of MXenes and their polymer composites for mitigating the electromagnetic interference shielding issues. A 2.5-micrometer-thick Ti3C2Tx film exhibited EMI shielding effectiveness of > 50 decibels, which is the highest among synthetic materials produced to date. Similarly, a 8-micrometer, Ti3C2Tx-Sodium Alginate (10. wt %) polymer film exhibited EMI shielding effectiveness of >15 decibels. In particular, the EMI shielding effectiveness of MXene and MXene polymer composites surpassed the common carbon materials such as graphene, carbon nanotubes and others. This performance originates from the excellent electrical conductivity of Ti3C2Tx films (4600 Siemens per centimeter) and absorption of electromagnetic waves in the MXene layers. This study opens the door for a new family of shielding materials for future technology which are light weight, easily processable, foldable and corrosion resistant. |
