Shape memory polymers have the capability to recover its original shape after being deformed into a temporary shape when exposed to external stimuli such as heat, light, electricity, magnetic field and moisture. In this study, we prepared a network polymer with both thermo- and water-responsive shape memory effect (SME) by UV curing of aliphatic urethane diacrylate oligomer /N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone(NVP) blends. DMA analysis revealed that the UV cured poly(urethane-co-NVP) networks constitute a homogeneous network possessing a single glass transition temperature (Tg). And, the UV cured co-network exhibit SME when the temporarily fixed shape is heated above its Tg or it is immersed in water at ambient temperature. It was thought that the water-triggered shape memory effect of the co-network was arise by lowering of Tg of this polymer upon immersion in water. Effects of NVP content in the network on thermomechanical properties and shape memory effects were examined. |
