Mercury concentration inside the coal was analyzed using Acid Extraction and Pyrolysis method. Coal is widely used in many industries, including coal-fired plants, industrial utility boilers, and iron manufacturing plants. By analyzing mercury concentration of the raw material, it can be controlled by pre-treatment of the coal rather than the post-treatment of the exhaust gas at power plant. Each sample was analyzed using both Acid Extraction and Pyrolysis process. Generally high mercury concentration of 0.11 - 0.47 ppm was observed in high anthracites. Anthracite coal had higher density than bituminous coal, and one with higher density also had higher mercury concentration. Furthermore, the results also showed that sulfur and mercury concentrations are positively correlated with each other. |
