Preparation and Ionic conductivity of sulonated SEBS-g-MA/SiO2 ion exchange membrane for high ionic conductivity and low cross over |

A novel anion exchange membrane has been prepared using Polystyrene-block-poly(ethylene-ran-buthylene)-block-polystyrene (SEBS) as a starting material. Sulfonic acid groups are first introduced into the SEBS/SiO2. Then grafted maleic anhydride (MA) on the SEBS and added carboxylic acid and sulfonic acid groups into the SEBS-g-MA/SiO2. The membrane is characterized by FT-IR and dynamic modulus analysis. Water uptake, impedance, ionic conductivity and ionic exchange capacity are measured. The membrane showed conductivities up to 0.25 S/cm at 100% relative humidity, and water uptake is 72.5%. After grafted MA and added SiO2 cross over phenomenon of V5+ ions become decrease. Atomic force microscopy analysis showed that the morphology of membrane surface which separation along with functionality. |
