제목 Green biorefinery towards bioenergy driven by nanocatalysts
초록 “Green Biorefinery” is an approach for utilizing bioresources, basically biomass, for the production of bio-based products, including biofuels, biochemicals, and materials. This is identified as one of the most promising routes to the creation of a new domestic bio-based industry, and will lead us to an ultimate bio-based and low-carbon society. Nanostructured catalysts play a crucial role in biorefinery as they allow green bio-based products to be effectively and efficiently produced. Heterogeneous nanocatalysts based on alkaline earth oxides are found to be highly active and selective in transesterifying vegetable oils and animal fats to biodiesel with catalyst reusability and without wastewater. The catalytic conversion of glycerol, a by-product from biodiesel process, to value-added chemicals can be achieved over Cu-based nanostructures. The combined process would provide near-zero waste emission.
