Despite the bright prospects of VLSI industry, there are some limitations in the current Si technology. For an example, the current planar Si technology will not survive in the nano-electronic regime due to the lack of gate controllability. Also the VLSI technology can not provide the solution to the next generation fusion technologies (e.g. ubiquitous IT-bio or flexible devices). This seminar introduces two recent researches that can provide the solution to the above problems. The first part of this seminar will introduce the high performance printable semiconductors from the bulk Si wafer on flexible substrates, or bio-compatible polymers. The second part of the seminar will discuss 3D nano-transistors that can improve gate controllability and also increase the chip density for the future microprocessor. Finally this seminar will discuss how to incorporate the VLSI technology, flexible electronics and bio-chips into the fusion research area. |
