Effect of fluorination on the VOCs gas adsorption properties of activated carbon fibers |

The volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is a major environmental problem as the major greenhouse gas. In this study, the activated carbon fibers were treated by fluorination, and the effect of fluorination on the VOCs gas adsorption of ACFs was investigated. The fluorination of ACFs was performed with N2 and F2 gas mixtures at room temperature. The surface property of fluorinated ACFs was investigated by XPS, and specific surface area was assessed by N2 adsorption at 77K. The VOCs adsorption experiment was carried out using gas chromatography(GC), under the 100 ppm gas concentration, gas flow rate of 300 cc/min and 0.01 g adsorbent. As a result, the adsorption property was showed that the breakthrough point of fluorinated ACFs is increased up to 27% at 100 ppm benzene concentration. Therefore, this fluorination treatment can be applicable to effective adsorption of benzene gas. |
