제목 Mechanism of Layer Inversion in PVP/PS Bilayer Thin Films
초록 When the poly(2-vinyl pyridine) (PVP)/polystyrene (PS) bilayer thin film was annealed well above the respective glass transition temperature, the dewetting velocity of PS thin layer in early stage was faster than that of the PS homolayer alone. As the annealing time progresses, the dewetted PVP due to immiscibility between PVP and PS spreads onto the SiO2 substrate due to the favorable enthalpic affinity with SiO2, while the dewetted PS layer is saturated at the air surface owing to the low surface energy. This energetic preference eventually inverted the original opposite PVP/PS bilayer. However, the layer inversion mechanism of PVP/PS bilayer thin films have been unknown until now.
For the mechanism study, we prepared PVP/PS bilayer thin films on SiO2 with high molecular weight (high viscous) PS lower layer using spin coating technique. Optical microscopy (OM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used to examine their surface morphologies and interface morphologies of bilayer thin films and surface segregation as a function of annealing time and temperature.
