Fabrication of Bio-Nanocomposites from Renewable Triglycerides and Chemically Modified MWNTs |

In this study, an environmentally friendly bio-nanocomposite has been developed. triglycerides are the major component of plant and animal oils. Bio-based nanocomposites was prepared from functionalized triglycerides and chemically modified MWNTs. The chemically modified MWNTs were prepared by sonication in an HNO3/H2SO4 solution to give carboxylic acid groups. The carboxylic acid groups on MWNTs were confirmed by Raman. The chemically modified MWNTs were directly dispersed in functionalized soybean resin and copolymerized with styrene. Tert-butyl peroxy benzoate (TBP) radical initiator was used in order to cure the composites. The dispersion of MWNT was studied by TEM and the mechanical properties were investigated using DMA. The properties are significantly improved by the addition of modified MWNTs. |
