제목 Electrodeposited Co(OH)2 and Co3O4 nanostructures for methanol electro-oxidation application
초록 In recent time, direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) have been considered to be one of the most promising energy sources for portable devices and transportation applications. Herein, cobalt hydroxide (Co(OH)2) and cobalt oxide (Co3O4) were directly grown on conducting substrate by electrodeposition route for methanol oxidation. Electrodeposition technique is an excellent method in which active materials can be directly grown on the substrate without adding any binder and conducting agent. The hydroxide was deposited from 0.05 M cobalt nitrate electrolyte at −0.75 V vs. SCE without adding any surfactant. Among the two electrodes, Co(OH)2 shows excellent electrocatalytic activity with a superior long-term stability towards methanol oxidation. The excellent electrocatalytic properties of the electro-catalyst are mainly attributed to the direct growth of an electroactive nanostructure that enhances mechanical adhesion and facilitates a fast electron transfer between the current collector and the electro-catalyst.
