The formation of intermolecular C-C bonds is one of the most important synthesis protocols in organic synthesis. Recently, an eco-friendly synthetic method, which used light, for the reaction has been reported from various research groups. However, such a reaction system becomes more complicated because both light-absorbing materials such as an organometallic complex. To reduce the complexity of the reaction system, and drive chemical reaction under visible light, we employed a plasmonic Au nanoparticle system for the C-C cross-coupling reaction. In this study, we demonstrated plasmonic gold-catalyzed intermolecular C-C bond formation under visible light and mild reaction conditions. On the basis of our experimental results, we concluded that the biphenyl was formed as a final product by a plasmonic gold-catalyzed chemical reaction. |
