The controlled radical polymerization of pentafluorostyrene(PFS) and methyl methacrylate(MMA) were successfully performed at ambient temperature. A technique is described for the synthesis of PPFS-PMMA diblock copolymers through a poly(pentafluorostyrene) macroinitiator. The bromine terminated macroinitiator, which was prepared by atom transfer radical Polymerization(ATRP) were carried out at 75℃ using an appropriate catalytic complex(CuBr/PMDETA) in fluorobenzene. The macroinitiator was used for the polymerization of methyl methacrylate(MMA) to give PPFS-b-PMMA diblock copolymers. The latter procedure was carried out at ambient temperature with CuBr and PMDETA as the catalyzing system. The characterization of the block copolymers was performed by NMR, AFM and GPC. |
