Carbon nanotubes are widely investigated as composite materials due to their novel structural, electronic and mechanical properties. Especially well-arrayed CNTs are highly desirable to enhance the electrical properties in nanodevices. In this research, SWNT-discotic liquid crystal (DLC) composites were prepared and their thermal properties were investigated. Disk-shaped mesogenic pentaalkynylbenzene compound was synthesized as a matrix material. SWNTs were functionalized with DLC compounds to improve their dispersion in organic solvents and liquid crystals. Functionalization of SWNTs was confirmed by UV-Vis, PL, and FT-IR spectroscopy. The liquid crystalline behaviors of the composites were investigated by DSC and POM. |
