Thermal Degradation of Silk Fibers |
초록 |
Recently silk fiber has been investigated as an attractive reinforcement of a biocomposite material due to its comparable mechanical properties to glass fiber and environmentally friendliness. Especially, the waste silk obtained from many silk textile industries as disposable waste has been used as a reinforcing fiber of biocomposites for the purpose of recycling and utilization of renewable industrial waste. Also, the silk nanofiber from the waste silk by electrospinning is worthy of finding its useful applications. Such a natural fiber may undergo severe processing conditions at relatively high temperature during fabrication of natural fiber composite using a reinforcing silk fiber. Normally, silk is composed of fibroin and sericin proteins and it usually degrades under the high temperature condition, resulting in the decrease of mechanical performance. In this research, the thermal degradation of silkworm silk (bombyx mori), waste silk and electrospun silk nanofibers has been characterized by thermal and spectroscopic methods and compared in order to understand the thermal stability during biocomposite fabrication.
