Due to increasing elderly population, research on synthetic materials to be used as tissue substitutes attract enormous interest. To be used as biomaterials, the their biocompatibility should be satisfactory. The interfacial phenomena of biomolecules, such as proteins and carbohydrates, play a significant role in determining the material biocompatibility. This paper reports the interfacial behavior of proteins on the surface of newly synthesized ceramic composites which was characterized in terms of adsorption and desorption using optical waveguide lightmode spectroscopy (OWLS). The properties of ceramic composites were examined using various analytical instruments. The result demonstrated that the interfacial phenomena of proteins was considerably affected by the surface properties of the composites. |
