Ethylene Polymerization Studies Using a-Diimine Based Cationic Ni(II) Complexes Bearing Bulky Substituents |

This investigation relates to a series of transition metal complexes represented by the formula LMX2 where M is nickel, L is a bulky bidentate a-diimine bonded to M by two heteroatoms where both the heteroatoms are nitrogen and where X is bromine, and their activity study in ethylene polymerization reactions. All the complex were found active in ethylene polymerization reactions when activated with methylaluminoxane (MAO). The nitrogens in the ligand come from the condensation of a diketone with substituted anilines. By changing the substituents on iminoid benzene ring it was found that the activity of the catalysts and the microstructure of the polymer were greatly affected. |
