A study on optimum ionic liquid content in the catalyst layerof high temperature polymer electrolyte fuel cells |
초록 |
Nafion ionomer is impregnated or incorporated in the polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) electrodes to achieve high power density. At the high temperature operation of PEFC, however, Nafion’s ionic conductivity remarkably decreased due to the evaporation of water swelled in Nafion polymer. Recently, many researchers have reported that ionic liquids (ILs) instead of water in Nafion polymer showed a promising possibility for the use as an ionomer binder at high temperature. Especially, ILs play a crucial role in proton conduction mainly by the Grottuss mechanism and act as water in water-swelled Nafion polymer. However, in the Nafion polymer containing ILs, it was found that the ILs was easily leached out of the polymer matrix and finally it results in the PEFC performance loss. Thus, optimum IL content is important to improve the cell performance. |
