For controlling the average molecular weight of polyacrylic acid in aqueous solution, aqueous acrylic acid polymer has been synthesized in various reaction conditions such as reaction temperature, pH, reactant concentration, catalyst concentration, etc. The average molecular weight of the polymers was 3,700 to 770,000 and the identification of those was carried out by IR, GPC and NMR. For the applications of the aqueous polymer, the equilibrium calcium ion concentration by a calcium ion electrode was measured in the aqueous polymer solution.
