A series of supported NiSO4 catalysts was prepared by the impregnation method using an aqueous solution of nickel sulfate. The addition of nickel sulfate to supports shifted the transition of supports from amorphous to crystalline phase to a higher temperature because of the interaction between nickel sulfate and supports. The number of acid sites for NiSO4 catalysts increased in proportion to the nickel sulfate content up to 15-20 wt% of NiSO4. The asymmetric stretching frequency of the S=O bonds for NiSO4 catalysts was related to the acidic properties and catalytic activity. The addition of Al2O3 or Fe2O3 as promotor up to 5 mol% enhanced the acidity, surface area, thermal property, and catalytic activities of NiSO4 catalysts due to the formation of Al-O-M or Fe-O-M (M=Zr, Ti). |
