Modification of Electrode to Improve diffusion of reactants in Alkaline anion Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells |

Recently, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are rolling out using proton exchange membrane fuel cells. But high cost of fuel cell stack still retards commercialization in most markets. Alkaline anion exchange membrane fuel cells meets the challenges facing proton exchange membrane fuel cells like high cost and corrosion problems. Under alkaline conditions at the electrodes allow to use of low cost non platinum catalyst, due to enhanced the kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction compared to acidic environment, leading to improve fuel cell efficiency. However, diffusion of reactants in AEMFCs is more difficult than in PEMFCs. Catalyst loading of alkaline anion exchange membrane fuel cell is usually much higher than of that of PEMFCs. In contrast with PEMFCs, water reacts at the cathode and also it generated at the anode.
