Electrochemical Analysis of Cathode Catalyst Layer for AEMFC |

Although there has been a lot of technological advances in proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC), the population of PEMFC is still limited due to high cost and limited reserves of Pt catalyst. So intensive research efforts in developing non precious catalyst to replace the Pt-based catalysts. But many of these non-precious catalyst show superior performance to Pt catalyst in alkaline environment. Alkaline anion exchange membrane fuel cell(AEMFC) is very promising as alternative to PEMFC. AEMFC has been rapidly developed since alkaline electrolyte solution replaced with polymer electrolytes. But there are several challenges that we should solve for use in practical cells widely. Main topic in AEMFC is the stability of the functional groups of the membrane. Accordingly, recent studies have focused on development of anion exchange membrane and ionomer. There is a lack of research on the various aspect in terms of membrane-electrode assembly and operating condition. In this study, the effect of catalyst layer design on the cell performance is investigated. |
