Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) is a copolymer encapsulant used as an interlayer in the industrial photovoltatic module encapsulation process. EVA serves to provide structural support, optical coupling, electrical isolation, physical isolation/protection, and thermal conduction for the solar cell assembly. Systematic studies have been conducted at NREL to determine the degradation and discoloration mechanisms for laminated and cured commercial EVA films and to quantify the effects of EVA discoloration on the cell efficiency of EVA-encapsulated crystalline-silicon solar cells. In this study, EVA sheets are characterized by gel content, FT-IR spectrum, UV-vis spectrum and transmittance to find the optimum PV module process. |
