In this study, we fabricated sulfur networking filters for mercury ion removal in the water through easy and cost-effective process. Sulfur networking system was formed on the surface of cellulose via the pseudo sol-gel mechanism and the deep-coating method. The sulfur networking filters was examined by chemical and physical analyses. Moreover, they exhibited different mercury adsorption efficiency according to immersion time and sulfur contents, and also effective mercury adsorption in a wide range of pH between 2 and 12. Lastly, the large scale filters were fabricated with efficiency above 95% successfully by various wet process such as spray-coating method. This research suggests that the sulfur networking filters will be an economical platform which can purify the water by using abundant and inexpensive materials including elemental sulfur and cellulose. |
