Selective Permeability of Semi-Permeable Membrane Based on a Cellulose/Chitosan Blend System |

Semi-permeable membranes based on the blends of cellulose triacetate (CTA) and chitosan (CS) were prepared to develop to produce biomass and biofuels. In order to prepare the binary blends of CTA and CS, these polymers were dissolved in formic acid as a co-solvent of both polymers and cast onto a glass using a doctor knife. The miscibility and specific interactions between CTA and CS were investigated by FTIR, and their morphology and mechanical property were investigated by SEM and UTM. Although the tensile strength of these blend films decreased with the increase of the CS content, they showed excellent tensile strength at all compositions. The membrane performance of these blend films at various compositions was investigated. |
