Poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO)/sulfonated halloysite nanotube(sHNT) nanocomposites was prepared by a solvent casting method, and their thermal and mechanical properties were investigated. DSC analysis showed that, with increasing sHNT content in the nanocomposites, melting temperature and degree of crystallinity of PEO decreased. Dynamic mechanical analysis revealed an increase in storage modulus with increasing sHNT content and a presence of rubbery plateau above the Tm of the nanocomposites, implying a formation of physically networked structure of the nanocomposites. As a consequence of the networked structure, the PEO/sHNT nanocomposites exhibit shape memory effects. Such a novel nanocomposites have potential biomedical applications. |
