제목 Hierarchical Self-Assembly of Aromatic Amphiphiles into Fibers, Ribbons and Twisted Ribbons
초록 The aromatic amphiphiles consisting of a laterally extended aromatic segment and different lengths of PEO coils self assemble into nanofibers with a bilayer packing in ethyl ether solution. Remarkably, the elementary fibers were observed to further aggregate laterally to form well-defined ribbons with solvent exchange of ethyl ether into methanol. Decreasing the PEO length enforces the flat ribbons to be curved to form twisted ribbons with a regular pitch along their axis due to steric constraints caused by enhanced hydrophobic and π-π stacking interactions between aromatic segments. Consequently, the incorporation of a laterally extended aromatic segment into an amphiphilic molecule provides a unique strategy for hierarchical formation from elementary fibers to nanoribbons with a tunable twist through enhanced lateral interactions between elementary structures.
