As a novel class of proton exchange membrane materials, sulfonated poly(arylene ether) were prepared by direct copolymerization via nucleophilic aromatic substitution. The synthesized copolymers were characterized by 1H-, 19F-NMR and FT-IR. The membranes were prepared by solution casting method. The thermal stabilities of the copolymers were characterized by DSC and TGA. The transport properties such as proton conductivity, water uptake, and swelling ratio, of the proton exchange membranes were observed as changing the sulfonation degree (DS), IEC value, and chemical composition and their structures. And the morphological studies of the membranes were characterized by AFM. |
