The objective of this study is to investigate the influence of SDS and PVCap on the morphology of methane-propane clathrate hydrates growing at a gas/water interface. The experiments were carried out in the presence of SDS or PVCap. The growth characteristic of pure water and these two systems was compared at the bubble. In the case of pure water system, hydrate film initially formed on the surface of bubble and then the dendrite shape of hydrate crystals were developed from the hydrate film as time passed. In contrast, in the systems with SDS or PVCap, differences in film formation, growth rate and growth aspects were revealed and a series of interesting phenomena were observed. A smoke-type of crystal were observed in the presence of SDS, and a fiber-type crystal were seen in the solution with PVCap. These suggest that the addition of SDS or PVCap affects growth patterns of hydrate crystal. |
