Sulfonated poly(ether sulfone)s containing DHTPE (S-PDHTPEs) were prepared from 4,4-(2,2-diphenylethenylidene)bisphenol (DHTPE), 4,4-sulfonyldiphenol, 4-fluorophenylsulfone using potassium carbonate, and followed sulfonation reaction with chlorosulfuric acid. Thus sulfuric acid groups were attached to three positions of DHTPE monomer unit. DHTPE is a conjugated structure, which enables to form planar conformation between aromatic rings. The conjugated planar structure provides lower water uptake by generating p-p interaction between phenyl rings of polymer chains. A series of membranes were studied by 1H-NMR spectroscopy, thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), ion exchange capacity (IEC), water uptake, and proton conductivity. |
