Epoxy resins are used in various fields, such as the boat building and repairing industries because of their excellent properties such as adhesion property, chemical resistance and dimensional stability. Surface cracking, amine blushing and yellowing were shown in epoxy/wood boats under long-term exposure to environment. Mechanical property changing of epoxy resins under accelerated aging conditions such as temperature-, moisture- and UV exposures were characterized by FT-IR, Spectrocolorimeter and SEM upto 1000 hours. The ether peaks at 1246cm-1 and 1034cm-1 decreases according to exposure time due to aging of epoxy resin. FT-IR results are in good agreement with the results of yellowness index as well. From all results, we confirmed that the exposure time is closely related to aging of epoxy resins. |
