Azo-dyes were interesting in the field including dye laser, painting, and textile dyeing. In the previous study, a water soluble azo-dye was developed through a click polymerization. Water soluble-monomer and an azo-dye were coupled by a triazole group. Ortho-substituted carboxylic group of ortho-methyl orange participated in intra-molecular H-bond and it was evidently assisted by neighboring triazolium groups. We designed azo-dyes for new and selective neighboring effect such as ortho-substituted alkoxy, alcohol, carbonyl and imino groups. The dye was examined for H+ and metal detection. Several metal ions were observed to generate a quinonoid structure of azo dye, inducing a specific color change. The binding effect was studied using UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. Several azo-dyes with potential neighboring group effect were prepared, and evaluated for their characteristic metal selectivity and pH sensing. |
