The reliability and reproducibility are the most important factors for gas sensor applications. The influence of oxide nanofiber length and thickness of sensing film consisting of nanofibers on the reliability and gas response was investigated. The sensor prepared from long SnO2 nanofibers (length: ~3.6 µm) showed the remarkable fluctuation of gas sensing characteristics when the film is thinner than 18 µm. In contrast, the sensor prepared from short SnO2 nanofibers (length: ~0.9 µm) showed reproducible sensor response and resistance regardless of variation in film thickness. Furthermore, the shortening of nanofibers significantly enhanced the gas response, which can be explained by the increase of chemiresistive fiber-to-fiber contacts. The length of nanofiber, thickness of sensing film, and catalyst loading are the key factors to determine the reproducibility, gas response, and selectivity of SnO2 nanofiber gas sensor. |
