Morphological and chemical properties on cellulose irradiated by electron beam |

The effect of electron-beam irradiation on the surface characteristics of cellulose fabric and henequen fiber was studied in air. The irradiation was carried out with an electron accelerator and UV instrument. The cellulose was irradiated with EBI and UV using different energy in air. And the untreated was used for comparison. The functional group change was investigated with FT-IR. DSC and XRD were applied to examine crystalline properties. And the surface morphology was investigated by SEM. The electron and UV irradiation-induced changes in the chemical properties of cellulose were appeared. The oxygen-containing functional groups on the cellulose surfaces were increased. The atomic ratio of oxygen to carbon on the surface of cellulose was increased with EBI treatment and compared with UV treatment. In the picture of SEM, there were some cracks on the cellulose fabric irradiated by UV. The cracks were increased with increasing of energy and compared with EBI effect. |
