The Utilization of Low Rank Coal as Catalyst Support in Dimethyl Ether Steam Reforming |
초록 |
Coal can be utilized as carbon materials such as catalytic supports. Coal support is advantageous in many respects. Carboxyl groups in coal provide ion-exchange sites for nano-scale metal dispersion. It shows much higher coking resistance than MOx support by inhibiting carbon polymerization. The dispersed metal is in reduced state, so pre-reduction can be avoided. The high thermal conductivity can increase the thermal efficiency, and it is easily recyclable. Most importantly, the activity can be readily controlled by manipulation of the coal pore structure. In this study, Indonesia low-rank coal named Eco is used as catalytic support of Rh metal. TEM image shows nano-dispersion of Rh on Eco (mostly < 2 nm particles). When the reaction condition is optimized at 400 °C, S/C = 9, and GHSV = 8,000 h-1, it shows ~87% H2 yield with 100% DME conversion, comparable to Cu-based commercial catalysts. This catalyst is expected to overcome low thermal stability of Cu-based one. |
