Optical and electrochemical properties of flourene based small molecule for inverted organic solar cells |

Since past two decades, the organic conjugated small molecules have been extensively explored for various photonics, electronics and optoelectronic devices owing to their low cost synthesis, easy purification, high thermal and chemical stabilities with exceptional electronic and optical properties. Recently, flourene based small molecules are widely used as a promising materials in organic light-emitting diodes and solar cells due to their excellent optical and electrochemical properties. In this work, a new fluorene based small molecule with alkyl thiophene units has been synthesized and applied for inverted organic solar cells. The synthesized small molecule (9-RFL) shows absorption spectrum at 407 nm and Photoluminescence (PL) spectra of thin film show an emission peak at 570 nm suggesting good interface area for charge separation and collection. The HOMO and LUMO energy levels were calculated as -5.28 eV and -2.61 eV from the onset values of oxidation and reduction potentials, respectively. |
