Injectable Hyaluronic Acid-based Hydrogel Combined with Vitamin D to Treat Tendinopathy |

Tendinopathy, also called tendonitis, is one of the most common overuse injuries that includes pain, swelling, and impaired function. Most treatments of tendinopathy provide only symptomatic relief such as rest and steroid injection. Herein, we suggest the efficient of vitamin D (Vit D) delivery system with hyaluronic acid (HA) which is one of the chief components of the extracellular matrix and has a capability of the inflammatory response and wound healing. It is demonstrated that injectable HA hydrogel incorporated with Vit D has an outstanding efficiency for damaged tenocyte proliferation with TNF-α in vitro. Moreover, it showed histological restoration to damaged achilles tendon by collagenase injury rat model. Accordingly, this Vit D delivery system would be a great promising treatment for tendinopathy on intramuscular injection. |
