Monodisperse micron-sized hybrid particles having core-shell structure were prepared by coating the tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) on the surface of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres. In the preparation of monodisperse PMMA core particles, various contents of acrylamide (AAm) were copolymerized to supply the positive charge by means of the amine groups. Then TEOS was slowly dropped to the medium at the certain conditions. Because of the electrostatic force between positively charged PMMA particles and negatively charged silica sol, silica shell was generated on the PMMA core particles. Depending on the medium condition, the charge density of PMMA particles, and the amount of TEOS, the morphology of hybrid particles were investigated utilizing a transmission and scanning electron microscope. |
