In this work, two functionalization methods, i.e., acid treatment and chemical amidation were performed to prepare the functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). And, the properties of epoxy/functionalized MWCNT composites were investigated with the thermal and rheological measurements. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) was used to study the surface functionality of the MWCNTs by the functionalization methods. Also, the thermal properties of the cured specimens were investigated by a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The effects of the MWCNTs functionalization on the storage and loss modulus were systematically studied by a stress rheometer. From these results, it was confirmed that the storage modulus of the epoxy/MWCNT composites could be increased by the grafting with dodecylamine. |
