To investigate the difference of mechanical, thermal and rheological performances between pristine polycarbonate (PC) and PC/clay nancomposites, we fabricated two kinds of PC/clay nanocomposites via a conventional solvent casting method with chloroform. Na+-MMT and various OMMTs were adopted as nanofiller in fabricating the nanocomposites to examine the influence of different clay on the various properties of PC/clay nanocomposites. The change in d-spacing of clay was explored via XRD patterns and the microstructure of PC/clay nanocomposites was conformed through TEM images. Mechanical properties of PC/clay nanocomposites were characterized by UTM. Difference in thermal stability of PC/clay nanocomposites was also investigated using TGA. Finally, rheological properties of PC/clay nanocomposites with different clays as well as the pure PC were investigated. Properties of PC/OMMT (Cloisite10A) nanocomposite such as modulus and stiffness were found to be greatly improved. |
